TITLE: HIGHKOAT – Research on high-performance and eco-sustainable coatings for REACH compliance.
ACHIEVEMENTS: The HIGHKOAT project aims to investigate new aesthetic-functional coatings and surface pre-treatments for highly complex metallic and plastic components, ensuring compliance with the REACH regulation and reducing the use of hazardous chemical substances in industrial processes.
The project focuses on the development of sustainable functional coatings (PFAS-free) and new surface preparation technologies capable of replacing conventional treatments based on restricted substances such as hexavalent chromium or hydrofluoric acid.

HIGHKOAT is developed through an industrial consortium led by MAIER, involving several companies specialized in materials, industrial processes and advanced manufacturing technologies, including MUGAPE and INNOMAT.
The project has a duration of three years (2025–2027).
Project funded by the Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government (HAZITEK Programme) and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
