PROJECT: Innovation in new sustainable materials, protection technologies, and monitoring systems for the offshore wind sector.
ACHIEVEMENT: Development of advanced coatings and monitoring technologies to enhance corrosion protection and extend the durability of offshore wind structures.
The HAIZEEKO project aims to drive innovation in the offshore wind sector through the development of sustainable materials, advanced protection technologies, and intelligent monitoring systems, primarily for offshore wind turbine blades and structures.
Offshore wind infrastructures operate under extreme environmental conditions that lead to corrosion, wear, and high maintenance costs. Conventional coating systems have limitations in terms of durability, environmental impact, and operational costs, creating the need for more efficient and sustainable solutions.
Within this context, the project is researching advanced coatings, new recyclable materials for wind turbine blades, and structural health monitoring technologies with the aim of improving the durability, energy efficiency, and sustainability of offshore wind systems.
The project is coordinated by Navacel and involves the participation of Argolabe Ingeniería, Mecanizados Ekimen, Global Factor, Innomat Coatings, Innovation Tree, Manutención y Manipulación Eraman, Kera-Coat, and Mandiola Composites, together with the CIDETEC and TECNALIA technology centres, members of the Basque Network for Science, Technology and Innovation (RVCTI).
The project has a duration of three years (2025–2027).
The project is funded by the Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government through the HAZITEK Programme, and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
